Sports Afternoon Postponed

A Melrose Learning Trust School
Dear parent/carers, As always, I hope this letter finds you all safe and well. Following correspondence from the DfE (Department for Education) this afternoon, I have unfortunately had to make the decision to postpone Sports afternoon that was scheduled to take place on Monday 18th July. This will now take place on Tuesday 27th September 2022. The Met Office has extended an amber extreme heat warning for Sunday 17 July, Monday 18 July and Tuesday 19 July, as temperatures will build this weekend and early next week for much of England and Wales. The amber warning highlights likely adverse health effects for the public, not just limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat. In light of this, the guidance states that:
  • children should not take part in vigorous physical activity on very hot days
  • children should wear loose, light-coloured clothing to help keep cool and sunhats with wide brims to avoid sunburn
I am very disappointed to have to make this decision and I realise it will come as disappointing news to families, but my decisions are always based around what it best for the children. From a health and safety point of view, I believe it would be irresponsible if this event were to go ahead. For the last three days of term (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week), children do not need to wear school uniform. Please can children be dressed in light, loose clothing as outlined above. Once again, I apologise but I hope you all understand my reasons for making this decision. Thank you for your support Mr Appleby
