Welcome to Oak Class!
I am delighted to welcome the children back and I am looking forward to teaching your child this year.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Miss Defty. This is my seventh year of teaching. I love animals, especially my dog Kobi, all things Disney, reading and travelling all around the world!

Family Friday – September
It was wonderful to see so many of you at Family Friday this morning. The cards the children produced were amazing! We will be aiming to send them out to each emergency service next week.
Family Friday – October
This month in school we will be celebrating Black History Month. Today we listened to the Little People Big Dreams story about Rosa Parks and we discussed why she was such an important and influential figure in Black History.
Trip to the Discovery Museum Newcastle
Year 1 had an amazing morning at the Discovery Museum learning all about the Great Fire of Newcastle. Our workshop with Amy was fantastic and the children really were a credit to our school!
Little Finger – Durham Music Service
We have been very lucky to have Mrs McCartney from the Durham Music Service spend some time with us in school this half term to teach us all about different instruments and practicing some musical skills.
Family Friday – November
Thank you for joining us for Family Friday this month. The children did a ‘super’ job as creating their anti-bullying superheroes. Next week we will be discussing stories and strategies that promote anti-bullying as well as celebrating odd socks day!
