Mental Health and Wellbeing

A Melrose Learning Trust School

At Easington C of England Primary School, in line with our mission statement of ‘Happy, Healthy and Fulfilled’ we believe that if children and staff are happy and settled and school, then the Teaching and Learning will take care of itself.  To that end, there is a robust network of support with regard to Mental Health and Wellbeing.

Children – we receive excellent support from Melrose Learning Trust with a designated Mental Health and Wellbeing lead who provides bespoke support depending on the needs of the individual child.  As well as this, we also have our own Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead in school who delivers interventions across the school as required.  Children complete Emotional Wellbeing Questionnaires and any areas identified as a concern are addressed as a priority.  The relationships between staff and children are exceptionally strong and as a school, we pride ourselves on knowing our children well.  Therefore, if a child is presenting differently, staff are aware and can take proactive steps to support the child in question.

Staff – there are a range of strategies that staff can utilise to support their own mental health and wellbeing.  Both Melrose Learning Trust and Senior Leaders in school are passionate about supporting staff and ensuring a work-life balance. To this end, a number of initiatives are implemented across the year, including:

  • Golden Day – staff receive a day off school (paid)
  • Access to Opti-Me – an online app to support with mental health and wellbeing.
  • Alternating staff meeting weeks where one week focuses on whole school priorities and the other with a mental health focus.
  • Report writing day.
  • Allocated subject leader time.
  • Trust CPD days focusing on mental health and wellbeing.
  • Shout out board.
  • Good relationships between staff allow strong support.
  • Live marking in classes to aid a healthy work life balance.
  • An annual Wellbeing Walk for the whole school community.
